What to pack in your luggage for an orthopaedic surgery

Appropriate preparation for orthopaedic surgery is very important. There are many things that you need to consider and it is always easy to forget something while packing. We hope that this post will be helpful for anyone who at the moment is getting ready to travel abroad for a orthopaedic procedure. Below you will find a list of things that we recommend to put into your suitcase:

You should bring comfortable clothes and shoes which would be easy to put on and take off.
We highly recommend you pack comfortable-fitting, no-tie, outdoor slippers (e.g., Crocs) so you may walk around the clinic with no need to put on shoes.
We also recommend bringing loose-fit training trousers. If you are having knee replacement surgery, loose-fit knee-length shorts might be even better.

Make sure you don’t forget to pack all of your personal hygiene products. Of course, if you are travelling with hand luggage only, don’t forget about the 100 ml limit for liquids on a plane.

Lots of our patients bring laptops, headphones, smart tablets or books to make their flight and also recovery days a little bit more entertaining. There is free Wi-Fi available at the hotel, clinic and the rehabilitation centre.

Don’t forget the adapters, too, as the plug-ins in Lithuania have two round pins, which is different from some other countries, such as the UK and Ireland.

Make sure your passport/ID card and other relevant documents are packed. Check if your passport/ID card meets the entry requirements. *Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond the period of stay.
For UK patients we advise to get the GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card), which is advised by the National Health Service for all traveling people, in case of any emergency situation unrelated to the surgery. For EU patients – European Health Insurance Card, or EHIC.

Those will help you feel fresh and clean.

If you are taking any medication that is prescribed to you in your home country, remember to take plenty of it to Lithuania and to the clinic.

Compression stockings, sock aids as well as physiotherapy items such as massage balls, rollers, and resistance bands, are available to purchase at the clinic. However, if you already have any postoperative care aids at home, you are welcome to bring them with you.
