There are no waiting lines for orthopaedic surgeries in Nordorthopaedics clinic. You will decide when it is most suitable for you to have a surgery.

It is highly recommended to see your personal physician before you go for treatment abroad. Most doctors know the concept of medical travel so their advice and critical evaluation of your personal case will surely make the situation clearer.

Why is the price for medical services significantly lower in Lithuania?

Firstly, it is due to the cheaper labour force since average hourly wage in Lithuania is considerably lower than it is in Scandinavian countries, Great Britain, Germany, etc. Secondly, the professional liability insurance is much cheaper thus healthcare does not have to pay so much for insurance companies as it is common in other countries.

How much can I save while choosing medical services in Lithuania?

According to the data of Lithuanian Private Health Care Association, prices in Lithuania are from 3 to 10 times lower than in Western countries. How much you will save depends on how many procedures you are planning to have.  However, even with your plane tickets and accommodation included you may save a considerable amount of money. Price differences can be found for all procedures and surgeries: orthopaedic, plastic, bariatric and other.

When the payment should be made?

When you book the surgery date your customer service representative will give you the details on paying the deposit. No other payments in advance are required. The rest of the cost should be paid after your consultation with the surgeon.

How much is the first on-line consultation?

It is free of charge. Please, contact us and describe your case and expectations. We may ask for some additional information in a form of questionnaire to help the surgeon examine your case as thorough as possible.

What about experiencing language problems?

Our surgeon speaks fluent English and Russian. Medical staff is used to foreign patients.

What is the age limit for hip replacement?

There is no age limit for hip replacement surgery, provided a patient is in reasonably good health.

How long will the hip implant last?

Hip implant lasts more than 10 years in 97% of the cases, more than 20 years in 85% of the cases. Nowadays hip implant quality is high enough to sustain different loads and they last for almost unlimited time period. If hip replacement surgery is done well it is usually the first and the last hip surgery for the patient.

Can I travel soon after the hip replacement surgery?

This mostly depends on the patient’s preoperative condition. If a patient is relatively fit, they can travel 5-6 days after the surgery. If the patient is elderly, overweight or has other health issues they should wait for 10 days before travelling. 

What to expect after hip replacement surgery?

The patient will start to feel much better immediately after the surgery compared to their  condition before surgery. The patient will stop feeling arthritic pain, the only pain the patient will feel is the pain of the wound. The first night after the operation is the hardest one as it is the most painful, the hardest for the patient to sustain. Walking exercises can be started the same day after the surgery. As the patient becomes more physically active, the pain eases. The patient stops taking the painkillers approximately a week after surgery. The patient can start walking without additional support one month after surgery.  The replaced hip will feel exactly like a natural one.

What are the walking exercises after hip replacement surgery?

The walking exercises can be started the same day after surgery. On the second day the patient should do flat walking exercises in the morning and climbing stairs using crutches in the afternoon. After that the patient starts physiotherapy that usually lasts 1-2 weeks.

Can I do sports after hip replacement surgery? What sports are best after such surgery?

All patients can do sports after the surgery, although it is hard to say which kind of sport is the best. This depends on the physical condition of the patient before the surgery. 

What hip replacement technique do you use?

We use minimally invasive surgical technique, which is associated with muscle pairing. During the surgery the surgeon doesn’t cut any muscles, all the tissues and structures are left in place. The incision and blood loss are minimal. This helps the patient to recover much faster.

Do I need to prepare my home for the period after the hip replacement? If so, what changes do I need to make?

Any changes in your daily home environment are not necessary and do not reduce the complication rate.

When do I need a knee replacement?

A patient who needs a knee replacement feels pain in the knee’s medial side, their X-ray scan shows full cartilage loss. The surgery changes damaged articular surfaces with metal devices: tibial, femoral and highly cross-linked polyethylene components.

Knee implant lasts more than 10 years in 95% of the cases, more than 20 years in 85% of the cases. If the knee replacement surgery is done well it is usually the first and the last knee surgery for the patient.

What to expect after knee replacement surgery?

One should expect the reduction of arthritic pain after knee surgery. However, the patient can experience some swelling, redness, walking difficulties during the first three months after surgery. Soft tissues around the knee need some time to adapt to the implant. The patient fully recovers 3-6 months after surgery. The patient will feel the full effect of the surgery  after one year.

Can I travel after knee replacement surgery?

This mostly depends on the patient’s preoperative condition. If a patient is relatively fit, they can travel 6-7 days after the surgery. If the patient is elderly, overweight or has underlying health conditions,  they should wait 8-10 days before travelling.

Can I do sports after knee replacement surgery?

All patients can do sports 3-6 months after surgery.

Can I drive after knee replacement?

Yes, patients can drive 4 weeks after surgery.

How long will I need to do physiotherapy after knee replacement surgery?

Patients can start doing walking exercises the same day after the surgery. However, due to pain and swelling, the patient can not do all the needed physiotherapy immediately after the surgery. The physiotherapy needs to be done for at least 3-4 weeks in order to have a full range of motion.

Do I need a follow-up after the surgery?

All patients are required to do an X-ray scan 3 months after the surgery. The scan is then examined by the surgeon. The second scan should be done 1 year after the surgery. With any issues, patients are always welcome to have online consultation.
